
LEGAZPI CITY, Albay โ As Typhoon #UwanPH nears landfall, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office V – Bicol Region has prepositioned 2,200 Ready-to-Eat Food Boxes (RTEFs) across major Bicol ports in Matnog, Pilar, Pio Duran, and Legazpi. These stocks are ready for immediate distribution to Local Government Units (LGUs) for stranded passengers and displaced families. The food boxes are distributed as follows: 1,000 in Matnog, 500 in Pilar, 200 in Pio Duran, and 500 in Legazpi. DSWD Bicol Regional Director Norman S. Laurio assured that additional resources are available and will be sent upon LGU requests. โDSWD is fully coordinated with LGUs and ready to augment supplies as needed,โ Laurio said, noting that pre-disaster assessments are ongoing with local disaster teams. The preparedness efforts follow guidance from DSWD Secretary Rex Gatchalian, who emphasized timely information sharing ahead of the stormโs arrival. Earlier today, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. declared a national state of calamity due to Typhoon Tino and the approaching Typhoon Uwan. As of 5:00 PM, several provinces in Bicol have been placed under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1. With resources in place and coordination underway, DSWD Bicol is prepared for swift disaster response.
