The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Bicol โ Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP) will focus on ensuring the continued growth of enterprises previously launched by SLP participants through the provision of business growth incentives and other forms of livelihood support this year.
Chief SLP implementers arrived at the said strategy following intensive deliberation of targets and priorities during a planning and direction-setting meeting held from January 13 to 15, 2025 at the Peopleโs Mansion, Sorsogon City.

This approach is aimed at stimulating the program participantsโ journey towards long-term socio-economic stability in accordance with the SLP Sustainability Plan, the programโs implementation framework.
Alongside this, the agency will continue supporting the launch of new microenterprises under the SLP, including those of disaster-affected program participants who sustained livelihood losses due to typhoons late last year.

In anticipation of potential resource limits, the DSWD Bicol-SLP has called on private and public stakeholders to complement its livelihood interventions to help ensure that all Bicolanos in need will be provided with livelihood support.
DSWD Bicol Regional Director Norman Laurio has earlier stressed the importance of having a coordinated social service workforce that cuts across various sectors in ensuring holistic social welfare services to the vulnerable, marginalized, and disadvantaged sectors.
At present, the DSWD Field Office V has established partnerships with over 180 government and non-government stakeholders, providing SLP participants with assistance through financial services, capacity-building, employment or market linkages, and advocacy and promotions, among other forms of support.
The agency continues to widen this pool of partners through partnership-building activities regionwide.
Aside from mapping out the targets, SLP implementers also deliberated on the required human resource complement during the planning meeting. They also paid a courtesy call to the Provincial Government of Sorsogon to coordinate forthcoming SLP initiatives in the province.

Guided by the directives of DSWD Secretary Rex Gatchalian and President Ferdinand โBongbongโ Marcos Jr.โs overall agenda, the DSWD FO V continues to build the capacity of underprivileged Bicolanos to establish and sustain thriving livelihoods, ushering them towards financial stability and transforming them into agents of socio-economic development not only in their communities but in the country at large.
