Residents and employees of Regional Rehabilitation Center for Youth celebrated Nutrition Month last July 26, 2022 through various activities

Every month, the Regional Rehabilitation Center for Youth (RRCY) conducts celebrations in line with the national monthly observances. This aims to engage the residents of the institution in various activities to further develop their skills. This allows them to explore more areas of interest and be in touch with their creative side.

Importance of activities for the residents

Activities like Nutrition Month Celebration allows the residents to showcase their skills and talents. This year’s celebration included Zumba, poster-making, slogan-making, quiz bee, and cooking contest. Accordingly, these activities allow them to become more creative. One resident pointed out that activities encourage them to socialize. “Mas na-encourage kami na humarap sa mga tao” (We are encouraged to socialize with other people)

Ms. Anabill Madrid, Manpower Development Officer in the center said, “Lumalabas talaga yung talent nila. Yung mga dating mahiyain, ngayon nangunguna na.” (Their talents are really showing. Those who were shy before are now leading). Sometimes, the residents also sew their own costume. They also said that they look forward to other activities, especially sportsfest. The residents also expressed gratitude to DSWD personnel for organizing activities inside the center. “Nabigyan kami ng time para maglibang. Maraming activities na ibinibigay at nakakatulong ‘yun sa amin” (We were given time to enjoy. There were many activities that were helpful to us).

DSWD personnel acknowledge the importance of conducting other activities aside from the structured therapeutic sessions for the resident children. Activities implemented are based on their needs to help them develop social skills. Ms. Ma. Christina Atizado pointed out that attention and guidance provided by the personnel also play an important role in the residents’ improved social functioning.

The Regional Rehabilitation Center for Youth (RRCY) is among the three residential care facilities and centers managed by the Department of Social Welfare and Development Field Office V. It provides rehabilitation services, care, and treatment for male Children in Conflict with the Law (CILC) with the goal of reintegrating them into the community.
