NAGA CITY, CAMARINES SUR – Inside the compound of a university, where the 28-year-old, Teacher Leizel used to frame her life with lesson plans and creative activities for her students, is now a quiet hallway filled with grief, as her wake is being held at the St. Francis Xavier Chapel of Ateneo de Naga University.
The grade school teacher, whose journey ended in tragedy due to a senseless act of violence on July 18, 2026, was known more than just a simple teacher.
For her students whose futures were nurtured with unyielding devotion, she was not only an eight years in-service educator but a structural pillar and inspiration.
Meanwhile, for her grieving mother, Leonila โ Leizel was a devoted daughter whose strength held her family together as one of the primary providers for their family. However, the tragic incident brought financial struggles and bereavement.

In a compassionate response, DSWD Bicol under the leadership of Regional Director Norman D. Laurio made clear that the presence extended of the Agency is far beyond the delivery of financial assistance.
As the suspect behind the tragedy was already captured, the Department stands together with grieving family’s plea for swift and unyielding justice.

When an unexpected tragedy shatters a family’s world, immediate care is more than a policyโit is a lifeline. Through swift relief, emotional support, and active advocacy, DSWD Bicol fulfills its duty to wrap its arms around families in their darkest hours. Justice will eventually heal the wound of impunity, but until then, compassionate care will continue to sustain the home that Teacher Leizel so lovingly built. ##
