Viga, Catanduanes – In a compassionate effort to swiftly provide aid to the family of Super Typhoon #UwanPH fatality in the province of Catanduanes, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office V-Bicol Region quickly conducted home visit to extend financial and emotional support.
On November 18, 2025, DSWD Bicol through its Crisis Intervention Section (CIS) in Catanduanes, visited the family of Uwan-victim who tragically passed away after being swept away by the flood waters in the municipality of Viga.
According to the bereaved family, during the height of the typhoon the 47-year-old victim, and his two nephews went out to check the situation of their piggery, as it is the main source of their livelihood.
After confirming the safety of the livestock, the group tried to go back but they were swept away by flash floods. The nephews survived but their uncle’s body was found lifeless, at approximately one hour after the incident.

As a response, the Angels in Red Vests of the DSWD Bicol provided psychosocial intervention to the grieving family particularly to the victim’s mother and sibling to help them cope with the emotional distress of losing a loved one.
In addition to the emotional support, the CIS Catanduanes, extended Php10,000 in financial assistance as augmentation support to their daily subsistence, and another Php10,000 in funeral assistance to help them cover the burial expenses.

This quick and compassionate relief support reflects with DSWD Secretary Rex Gatchalian’s directives, following President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr’s instruction to ensure immediate provision of assistance to the typhoon-affected families.
Under the leadership of Regional Director Norman S. Laurio, DSWD Bicol is continuously providing aid to Uwan-hit families ensuring that no one is left behind during disasters.
