Behind every success story is a journey of perseverance, faith, and self-belief—and for Jerome Bajaro, his story shines with all three. A path not paved but drawn using the brushes and palettes of a make-up kit.
As a Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) monitored child from elementary to high school, Jerome grew up in the island municipality of San Miguel, Tabaco City, facing the realities of poverty.
“There were many times I needed things for school, but my parents struggled to provide for us, especially since all four of my brothers were also studying,” Jerome said.
Yet through the support of 4Ps and the unyielding efforts of his parents, education remained within reach.
Determined to ease his family’s burden, Jerome discovered his passion and potential in the make-up industry while still in high school. Since he didn’t have his own hair and make-up tools yet, he would tag along with his friends to gigs, assisting and learning the craft.
“The money I earned from my first rackets, I invested in buying my own make-up supplies,” Jerome added.
After finishing high school, Jerome knew he was about to face another struggle. With 4Ps assistance limited only to high school, finding ways to finance his college education became his next hurdle.
“I didn’t want to be a burden to my parents—magra-racket na lang ako,” Jerome said.
This resilience became his strength and his motivation. He sought help from various agencies, such as the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office (MSWDO), applying for educational assistance programs that allowed him to sustain his studies. Through this journey, he found not only financial support but also inspiration to serve others—eventually leading him to pursue a career in social work.
When Jerome entered Bicol University, his life as a student and a make-up artist continued. He strived to support his daily allowance and academic expenses, balancing his studies and work with unwavering determination.
Today, Jerome stands proud as a Licensed Registered Social Worker, living proof of what it means to shine after struggle. From the brushes and palettes that once helped him get by, he now uses compassion and service as his tools to uplift lives—just as the 4Ps once uplifted his own.
To every working student and dreamer out there, Jerome offers this message:
“Never give up on your education, no matter how difficult life becomes. There are many ways to achieve your dreams if you truly want them. Believe in yourself, and see every challenge as a stepping stone to grow stronger. Because as long as you trust your abilities, what will truly shine in the end is the power of your dreams.”
From the creative world of hair and make-up to the noble calling of social work, Jerome’s path is proof that no dream is too distant when fueled by hard work and purpose.
