In the quiet municipality of Gigmoto, Catanduanes, hope is taking root through the power of partnership.
Good Neighbors International Philippines, which first set foot in Gigmoto in 2012, has long been devoted to nurturing the health, education, and protection of the youth. But when it officially joined the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) Municipal Action Committee in 2022, the collaboration grew into a deeper shared mission to uplift families and strengthen communities.
Today, many 4Ps beneficiaries are also Good Neighbors scholars. With laptops and educational support, 10 college students pursue their dreams with less financial burden, while another 10 high school students receive steady assistance for their daily school needs. Beyond scholarships, families are encouraged to build resilience through savings groups, learning the value of preparing for their children’s future.
The impact goes beyond financial aid. When health emergencies arise, aside from 4Ps, Good Neighbors provides a helping hand to the families. Schools, too, feel the effect of partnership. Sioron Elementary is set to benefit from a digital library project designed to spark children’s interest in learning and bring students back into the classroom.
For Project Manager Milarosa Aranas, the partnership is more than programs and projects. It’s about addressing real needs, creating opportunities, and ensuring no child is left behind. As she notes, “We share the same goal—to improve lives and give families the chance to dream bigger.”
In Gigmoto, what began as two separate efforts has become one united front for change. Together, DSWD’s 4Ps and Good Neighbors are proving that with compassion and collaboration, communities can truly rise.
