The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Bicol through the Kapit-Bisig Laban sa Kahirapan – Comprehensive and Integrated Delivery of Social Services (KALAHI-CIDSS) has accomplished 1,945 sub-projects with a total grant allocation of PHP 1,053,090,475.23 benefiting 369,388 households in 2023.
Of the 1,945 completed sub-projects, 211 sub-projects were in Albay, 184 in Camarines Norte, 613 in Camarines Sur, 225 in Catanduanes, 336 in Masbate and 376 in Sorsogon.
Most of the sub-projects completed were roads, Cash-for-Work, footpaths, spillways or overflow bridges, telecommunication equipment or devices and flood control or river control.
Regional Director Norman S. Laurio cited that besides the program’s commitment to provide sustainable development to the communities, KALAHI-CIDSS also ensures the sub-projects were implemented following the social and environmental safeguards.
“The program remains steadfast in ensuring that the sub-projects implemented were aligned with the needs of the communities. The program also invested in capacitating local volunteers to ensure the effective project implementation and management,” he explained.
He added that the program also facilitated the formation of Operations and Maintenance (O&M) groups in communities to monitor and assess the completed sub-projects for long-term benefits.
KALAHI-CIDSS is a Community-Driven Development (CDD) program of DSWD that empowers communities to participate in the identification, implementation and management of projects or interventions. ###
