Libon, Albay – In a heartfelt effort to support the municipality of Libon, Regional Director Norman S. Laurio of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office V – Bicol Region, personally visited one of the areas hardest hit by Severe Tropical Storm (STS) Kristine, on October 30. Sixteen barangays remain isolated due to severe landslides, severely complicating access to aid.

During his visit, Director Laurio delivered additional food packs, marking the first government assistance to reach many residents since the typhoon struck. This distribution brought immense relief and joy to the affected communities, who have endured significant hardship in recent weeks.

Today’s distribution included food packs for the following barangays:
Apud: 463 food packs
Rawis: 667 food packs
Talin Talin: 385 food packs

Tomorrow, October 31, more food packs are scheduled to be distributed to:
Caguscos: 340 food packs
Macabugos: 729 food packs
Tambo: 204 food packs

In addition to these distributions, Libon has already received 8,230 family food packs, along with 200 sleeping kits, 200 family kits, and 200 kitchen kits to support recovery efforts immediately following the typhoon.

RD Laurio, accompanied by Mayor Wilfredo Maronilla, also visited Barangay Pantao, which has experienced numerous landslides. They inspected the evacuation center to assess the conditions of evacuees, who remain unable to leave due to the heightened storm signal for TS Leon. They further evaluated the damaged roads that restrict access to the devastated community.

The DSWD remains committed to prioritizing the needs of the most affected areas, ensuring that no one is left behind as they work towards recovery from the devastating impacts of STS Kristine.
