In response to the continuous and prolonged heavy rainfall brought by the shear line, which caused widespread flooding in Sorsogon City, the Department of Social Welfare and Development Field Office V – Bicol Region immediately dispatched essential relief assistance to affected families on February 7 and 8, 2024.

A total of PHP 5,853,300 worth of Family Food Packs (FFPs) were simultaneously distributed to 8,175 families across 23 flood-affected barangays in Sorsogon City.

The beneficiaries of the relief aid include vulnerable sectors who continue to be affected by the ongoing weather disturbance caused by the shear line in various parts of the region.

DSWD Bicol, under the leadership of Regional Director Norman S. Laurio, remains committed to addressing the needs of families affected by the shear line across the region. The agency also continues to coordinate with other local government units (LGUs) experiencing the impacts of the said calamity to ensure the immediate delivery of assistance to affected families in their communities.#
