The Waves for Water (W4W) Philippines and Management Association of the Philippines in collaboration with the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) through the Kapit-Bisig Laban sa Kahirapan – Comprehensive and Integrated Delivery of Social Services (KALAHI-CIDSS) monitored the Water Filtration Project in Donsol, Sorsogon from February 18-19, 2025.

The monitoring was conducted by visiting the household beneficiaries of the water filtration buckets to assess the functionality of the filters and evaluate the project’s impact.

During the monitoring activity, a total of 145 out of 204 household beneficiaries were visited which provided an opportunity to address concerns from the communities on the operations and maintenance of the filtration buckets.

Last January 24-26, 2023, the W4W, MAP, and KALAHI-CIDSS distributed water filtration buckets to 204 households in five (5) barangays of Donsol, namely: Banuang Gurang, Baras, Gogon, Mabini, and Banban.

The water filtration systems provide clean water access in the area which can be used for five (5) to ten (10) years.

To ensure the operations and maintenance of the project, the KALAHI-CIDSS program and the Local Government Unit will monitor the water filtration buckets using the program’s evaluation tool.

Glenda Ordinanza, a beneficiary of the Clean Water Project in Barangay Mabini, Donsol, Sorsogon, shared the impact of the filtration bucket to her family members.

According to Ordinanza, since her family uses the filtration bucket for their drinking water and her grandchild’s milk, they won’t need to purchase water.

Nagpapasalamat po kami [sa ibinigay na filtration buckets] dahil po dito medyo napagaan po yung pagkuha sa tubig lalo na po sa mga bata. Saka, maraming salamat po,” she said.

(We are thankful for the filtration buckets provided because they have made it a bit easier to fetch water, especially for the children. Also, thank you very much.)

Another leg of the monitoring visit will be conducted in Presentacion, Camarines Sur in which 210 households received water filtration buckets last May 13 to May 16, 2024.

KALAHI-CIDSS is one of the department’s poverty alleviation programs. Using the Community-Driven Development (CDD) approach, it allows communities to plan, implement, and sustain interventions that address community-identified needs, fostering inclusive and sustainable development.
