Following the renewed eruption of Mt. Bulusan at around 1:30 PM today, Thursday, May 1, 2025, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office V – Bicol Region, in coordination with the Provincial Government of Sorsogon, swiftly dispatched an additional 10,000 Family Food Packs (FFPs) as part of its relief augmentation to affected communities.

According to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC), the eruption marks the third volcanic activity of Mt. Bulusan since April 28, 2025.

In line with the directive of DSWD Secretary Rex Gatchalian and under the leadership of DSWD Bicol Regional Director Norman Laurio, the agency mobilized over PHP 6.9 million worth of food assistance to ensure sufficient supplies for families affected by the latest volcanic activity.

The Provincial Government of Sorsogon provided critical logistical support, including trucks and manpower for loading operations. The relief items are currently en route to the affected areas.

Upholding the directive of President Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos Jr. to ensure the welfare and safety of affected populations, DSWD Bicol’s Quick Response Teams and field personnel remain on heightened alert. Continuous monitoring and assessment of affected areas are also underway.

Prepositioned relief goods and logistics are already in place in strategic locations to guarantee timely assistance as needed.

Mt. Bulusan remains under Alert Level 1, as reported by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS-DOST).###
