The Department of Social Welfare and Development Bicol recently conducted this year’s Nationwide Holiday Festival and Bazaar, dubbed as “PaskuJuan” at Pacific Mall, Legazpi City.
With the theme: “PaskuJuan: Salu-salo sa Pagbabago,” the simultaneous celebration and bazaar across all regions was spearheaded by the Department in partnership with other government agencies to share the spirit of love and joy in celebration and thanksgiving for the gift of family through acts of giving and sharing.
In addition, the activity stressed out the showcase of the various livelihood products by Sustainable Livelihood Program and Pantawid Pamilya beneficiaries.
Keeping the enthusiasm as the holiday season knocks in, the SOP band–winner from the first songwriting competition organized by Department rocked the audience. A dance number was also presented by the children from the Haven for Women institution.
“Ang pagbabago ay wala sa aming mga kamay, kundi sa ating lahat,” stressed out by Regional Director Arnel B. Garcia, in his opening remarks.
He added that this activity open’s the new opportunities to the less-fortunate people by providing them necessary skills that will lead them to be self-sustained citizens.
The one-day affair was ended with the awarding of cash prizes to the winners who showcased unique crafts and other indigenous products.
The grand prize worth Php 10,000 was awarded to beneficiaries from Albay, followed by beneficiaries from Sorsogon receiving Php7,000 and third prize amounting Php 5,000 was awarded to beneficiaries from Masbate. Consolation prizes worth Php2,000 were given to the other participants in the event.
“Tinuruan kami ng DSWD na di mo kailangang umasa ng umasa sa gobyerno, na dapat matuto kang gumawa ng paraan kung pano ka makakatulong sa pamilya,” said Emelita Obrero, a Pantawid Pamilya beneficiary. ***with reports from Joana Llana
