Legazpi City- The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) in partnership with Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) team up for the implementation of livelihood to a total of 20,334 families staying in the evacuation centers due to the Mayon eruption.
TESDA and DSWD through Sustainable livelihood program (SLP) will conduct profiling on the qualified evacuees for the said program. Project Development Officer (PDO) will lead the profiling of the potential program participants using the enhanced SLP profiling tools.
Maximum of 30 participants per program will be accommodated and will be given the opportunity to undergo the proposed skills training.
Based on the proposed skills training program for Mayon evacuees six (6) municipalities and three (3) cities will undertake the following skills training:
Through the collaborative efforts of DSWD and TESDA San Jose Elementary School located in Malilipot Albay has an on-going pilot implementation of face mask production through Seed Capital Fund (SCF). SCF is a capacity-building grant given to an eligible SLP participant belonging to an SLP Association. The grant is intended to support the establishment of a community-based credit and savings facility and to provide start-up or additional financial capital for participants who wish to engage in other income-generating projects. The qualified program participants were given 10, 000 pesos, wherein Department of Health (DOH) will be the potential buyer.
On the other hand, 998 program participants of SLP were affected with the total amount of Php 7,338,579.32 funding. These are:

> Poultry Raising > Rice Retailing (1 SLPA – Ligao)
> Vegetables production > Ilay Making
> Coconut Trading > Bread & Pastry
> Karagumoy Handicraft > Floral Arrangement
> Abaca Handicraft > Straw Bag Production
> Vermicomposting > Dressmaking
To gain additional income program participants bring their livelihood and through the coordination of Field Project Development Officer (PDOs) program participants were given space to continue their work inside evacuation center.
Analiza Espelita, president of Alcala Handicraft Weavers Association of Daraga Albay chose to continue the livelihood given by DSWD Sustainable Livelihood Program. According to her, it is better to earn inside the evacuation center to augment and support her family needs.
SLP is a community-based capacity building program that aims to improve the socio-economic condition of the participants. It facilitates interventions that expand the livelihood asset base of the participants (human, social, physical, natural, and financial capital) so they may either have gainful employment or successfully manage a microenterprise. #PRNPOJ02/12/2018
