Regional Director Leo L. Quintilla, CESE, presents the 2021 and 1st Quarter 2022 DSWD Regional
Accomplishments during the Media Forum in Camarines Norte

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office V organized the annual Media Forum and Tour in six (6) provinces of Bicol Region.

The forum aims at informing the public, through its media partners, the agency’s targets, challenges encountered, and accomplishments from the first to fourth quarter of 2021 including the first quarter of 2022. It was also an opportunity to discuss issues and concerns on the programs and services of the agency.

Regional Director Leo L. Quintilla, CESE, cited that media as fourth estate of the society has a vital role in distributing information and shaping public’s opinion.

“We (The agency) also want to strengthen the working relationship with media and recognize their invaluable efforts in disseminating information about our programs and services,” he added.

The media forum and tour was conducted in Masbate, June 2; Catanduanes, June 10; Camarines Norte, June 16; Camarines Sur, June 17; Albay, June 22; and Sorsogon, June 24.

Members of the press conduct interview to program participants of Obo Greenleaf Farmers SLP
Association during the Media Tour in San Miguel, Catanduanes.

To showcase projects, centers of excellence, and success stories of beneficiaries, DSWD personnel and media partners visited Kapit-Bisig Laban sa Kahirapan – Comprehensive and Integrated Delivery of Social Services (KALAHI-CIDSS) communities, Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP) associations and residential facilities particularly: (1) Barangay Pinamalatican and Barangay Umabay Interior in Mobo, Masbate, (2) Barangay Asid in
Masbate City, (3) Barangay Obo and Barangay Solong in San Miguel, Catanduanes, (4) Barangay Dinaga, Canaman, Camarines Sur, (5) Reception and Study Center for Children (RSCC) and Haven for Women and Girls in Ligao City, and (6) Regional Rehabilitation Center for Youth (RRCY) in Sorsogon City.

Luence Barcena, reporter of DZGB – AM, said that he admires DSWD personnel visiting different provinces to bolster the partnership with media who are representatives of the community, and he also hopes that this be conducted annually.

“Nagtutubod ako na iba’t iba ang mga suliranin buda concerns sa malaenlaeng probinsya, nagduman kamo [DSWD personnel], naaraman nindo, aram nindo ang gigibuhon na solusyon bako sana kamo puro data kundi mismong personal nindong na pagduman,” he explained.

(I believe that there are various problems and concerns in the different provinces where you [DSWD personnel] have visited; you were informed of those issues through the media partners so you already know what solutions to give. You just not only provide data but you visit the members of the press personally.)
