The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office V through the Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP) awarded livelihood grants to 4 SLP-organized associations each comprising of 30 members at Casiguran, Sorsogon today, June 3.
SLP personnel were joined by Casiguran Mayor Hon. Maria Minez Hamor, Ms. Editha Huet of Casiguran MSWDO, and Mr. Nickson Borabon the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program Municipal Link in Casiguran.
The 4 SLP Associations each received livelihood grants worth Php 450,000.00 for their proposed and approved livelihood projects. The associations will pursue Pili Making and Food Vending, Rice Retailing, Sewing and Food Vending, and Egg Farming.
The New Sustainable Livelihood Program operating under the Memorandum Circular No. 7, series of 2023 boasts improved cost parameters for its livelihood interventions, as SLP Associations that may be composed of a maximum of 30 members may now receive a maximum of Php 450,000.00 compared to the previous program guidelines’ Php 300,000.00, subject to assessment and approval of their project proposals.
The awarding of livelihood grants to SLP-organized associations follows after the provision of social preparation activities to program participants such as program orientation, capacity-building activities such as Micro-enterprise Development Training, and association formation activities led by the SLP Project Development Officer assigned to their municipality.
The SLP Associations moving forward will now act to implement their proposed livelihood projects under the guidance and monitoring of SLP personnel. They are expected to fully utilize the livelihood grants they have received with their project proposals as their guide. SLP Associations, depending on their projects, may use their livelihood grants in the construction of facilities for their livelihood projects and/or purchase of equipment and raw materials.
Through capability building activities and provision of livelihood grants, the Sustainable Livelihood Program ensures that program participants not only have the financial means to establish their livelihoods, but also the knowledge and skills necessary for the sustainability and success of their livelihoods.
