Promoting the Children’s Right, the Department of Social Welfare and Development through the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program recently conducted a second National Children’s Congress (NCC) in Philippine International Convention Center (PICC).

The five day congress was attended by some 175 beneficiary children coming from the poorest cities and municipalities of 17 Regions of the Philippines.

The NCC was launched by the Department of Social Welfare and Development through the Pantawid Pamilya in 2012 in partnership with the Council for the Welfare of Children (CWC).

According to Undersecretary Parisya H. Taradji, operations and programs group, the activity is in line with the Children’s Month celebration with the theme: “Kahirapan Wakasan, Karapatan ng Bata Ipaglaban.” She added that the Department’s top priority is to continuously provide to the children what is right for them. She also urges the children to value education and continuously comply with the conditions of the program.

Said activity aims to bring out the voices of children beneficiaries on issues directly affecting them.

The children participants also proposed recommendations and possible solutions with these issues in order for the government to respond on the emerging challenges that children are being confronted with.

Workshops, games, presentations, group activity pertaining to the rights of the children are also conducted.

Capping up the event was also the awarding of the National Search for Exemplary Children.

The Bicol’s Exemplary Child Nicole Martinez, of Barangay Parang, Jose Panganiban, Camarines Norte, won as the 3rd place in the said Search. While, exemplary children from Region IV-B and Car, IV-A, 8, 1, won the title National Exemplary Child and 2nd, 4th, 5th, and 6 place winner, respectively.

“Maraming salamat po, proud po ako dahil nanalo po ako at lahat sila ay magagaling. Natutuwa po ako sa opportunity na binigay nila sa akin. Ipagpapatyuloy ko po ang pagiging mabuting modelo sa mga kabataang katulad ko,” Nicole ended. ***G.A.Lindio, Information Officer-Pantawid Pamilya
