Naga City – The Disaster Response Management Division (DRMD) of the Department of Social Welfare and Development Field Office 5 (DSWD FO 5) conducted a training session on logistics and warehouse management for humanitarian supply chains from June 19 to 21, 2024, at Villa Rosita Hotel, Naga City, Camarines Sur.
33 staff members from various Local Social Welfare and Development Officers (LSWDO), Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officers (LDRRMO), and DSWD FO 5 Municipal Action Teams in Camarines Sur participated in the training.
Resource persons from the DRMD and the National Resource and Logistics Management Bureau (NRLMB) of the DSWD Central Office discussed topics such as humanitarian supply chains, warehouse safety, quality and production management, donation management, and the relief prepositioning and monitoring tool.
This training program covers key aspects of warehouse management, including inventory control, space utilization, workflow optimization, and the use of advanced technologies. Participants will gain the tools and insights needed to understand their roles in the humanitarian supply chain during disasters.
DSWD FO 5 Regional Director Norman S. Laurio graced the event and shared his insights and innovations from the agency’s recent disaster operations.
“Remember, our ultimate aim is not only to meet but to exceed expectations consistently. We have raised the bar here in FO5 in terms of Disaster Response in line with the good President’s order na walang magugutom sa panahon ng kalamidad and Sec. Rex Gatchalian’s directive to immediately deliver the needed assistance to the vulnerable sectors especially in times of disasters.”
“Fast and efficient disaster response is not just a goal but a moral imperative. It requires leadership, collaboration, innovation, and a commitment to protecting our communities. By working together and investing in preparedness and response capabilities, we can build a safer, more resilient world for generations to come.” RD Norman stated.
The agency also conducted the same training and workshop for 35 LGU staff members and QRTs in the Province of Catanduanes last June 3 to 7, 2024.
As the lead agency in the Food and Non-Food Item Cluster of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC), DSWD FO 5 ensures the adequacy and timeliness of food and non-food items (FNI) for augmentation to local government units in times of disasters and emergencies.
Currently, DSWD Bicol has relief prepositioning sites in 41 LGUs and manages 7 regional warehouses across the region, ready to respond to any disaster situations.###
