Representatives from various agencies and private sector partners reaffirmed their dedication to DSWD’s mission of uplifting communities and alleviating poverty.

MASBATE – The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Bicol successfully hosted the first leg of this year’s Stakeholders Conference on Masbate Island, bringing together government agencies, local government units, and private sector partners to reinforce their collective commitment to empowering communities and enhancing livelihood opportunities. This event served as a crucial platform for collaboration and strategic goal-setting to ensure the continued success of the Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP).

The conference highlighted the evolution of the SLP, tracing its origins from the SEA-K program (1996-2010) to its current structure. This historical context underscored the program’s adaptability to local needs and its provincial targets for 2022-2024, emphasizing the essential support from stakeholders and partners in achieving the SLP’s mission of creating sustainable livelihoods.

The importance of strong partnerships emerged as a recurring theme, as collaboration among government entities, the private sector, and community stakeholders is vital for transforming the lives of beneficiaries.

Beneficiaries showcased SLP products and shared their success stories. Mrs. Grace Barruga, a BP2 program participant from Milagros, Masbate, recounted how the SLP enabled her to return to her province and establish a stable livelihood. Mrs. Vilma Mondilo, President of the Salvacion Artisan SLPA from Palanas, Masbate, shared her journey of leading a local association to economic success, highlighting the support received from the program.

The conference also featured discussions on capacity-building, focusing on engaging local government units and external partners to ensure the program’s sustainability. Program technical staff introduced a five-year sustainability plan aimed at securing the long-term growth of SLP initiatives in the province.

Representatives from various agencies and private sector partners reaffirmed their dedication to DSWD’s mission of uplifting communities and alleviating poverty. These collaborations aim to extend the program’s reach to more vulnerable families, ensuring that no one is left behind.

DSWD Bicol remains committed to empowering communities through the Sustainable Livelihood Program, providing essential opportunities for economic growth. By cultivating partnerships with diverse stakeholders, the Department strives toward a vision of a society where everyone can enjoy the benefits of sustainable livelihoods and an improved quality of life.###
