MASBATE CITY — The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Bicol, under the leadership of Regional Director Norman S. Laurio, swiftly responded to the recent fire incident that befell the residents of Bapor, Masbate City, where homes were burned down and lives were disrupted. DSWD provided essential relief in the form of cash assistance to these affected families.

In an effort to alleviate the immediate financial burdens faced by the affected families, DSWD disbursed cash assistance to a total of 17 families in Bapor. Among these families, 15 households suffered total damage, each receiving 10,000 pesos to aid in their recovery efforts. Additionally, 2 families with partial damage to their homes were granted 5,000 pesos each to assist in their rehabilitation process.

 

“Our hearts go out to the families who have endured the devastation brought about by this disaster. In times like these, it is imperative that we come together as a community to extend our support and assistance to those in need,” RD Laurio stated.

 

The assistance extended by DSWD is under its Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation (AICS) program, which aims to provide timely aid to individuals and families experiencing crisis situations such as natural disasters, accidents, or other unforeseen events.

 

Pamela Aguilar, 47, one of the fire victims expressed her gratitude for the very quick response of the agency. “Nagpapasalamat po talaga kami sa DSWD at sa programang [AICS]. Napakalaking tulong po ang nakuha naming pinansyal na suporta mula sa ahensya para po wag malugmok sa kalungkutan at maibangon naming muli ang aming bahay matapos itong tupukin ng apoy.”
