CAMARINES SUR, Bicol – The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office V-Bicol Region provided a total of Php80,000 in financial assistance as additional support to the eight fire-stricken families in Zone 1, Barangay Poblacion, Del Gallego, Camarines Sur to help them recover from the tragic incident.
The devastating fire occurred on May 14, 2025, destroying eight homes and displacing a total of 50 individuals. Currently, the families are temporarily taking refuge in provisional shelters made from light materials, and some are staying with their relatives after a month in the evacuation center.
Immediately, on the day of the incident, DSWD Bicol, led by Regional Director Norman S. Laurio mobilized the team for the provision of Php32,642 worth of family food packs, and essential relief items. To assist the impacted families, particularly the children and the vulnerable individuals, in healing from the emotional trauma caused by the unexpected fire, the Angels in Red Vests also provided psychosocial intervention.
To further support the families’ recovery process, the Department extended financial assistance amounting to Php10,000 each. This aid will help them address their basic needs and daily subsistence, and will help the family rebuild their houses.
On July 9 and 14, 2025, all the affected families received the financial aid, under the Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation (AICS) Program, served through Crisis Intervention Section (CIS) Naga City Satellite Office.
To assist the affected families for the long-term recovery, after the fire also destroyed their livelihoods, the DSWD Bicol’s Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP) will conduct assessments and validations to identify possible livelihood support opportunities.
