Accidents happen when we least expect them, and fire accidents are among the most traumatizing especially when the damage is so severe that it cost you lives and properties.
There is no better way to deal with the news of a tragedy than to extend help immediately. DSWD Bicol gave prompt aid to the two families who were rendered homeless following the separate fire incidents in Albay just recently.
The fire transpired at 9:50 PM last July 14, 2022 at Purok 4, Sta. Cruz, Ligao City that burned down the house of 2 individuals. Meanwhile, another fire incident was reported last July 19, 2022 at 4:50 PM that happened in Purok 2, Barangay Ponso, Polangui, Albay affecting one family with 5 members. The displaced families of Ligao City are currently staying on a tent as their temporary shelter, while those of Polangui, Albay are temporarily living with their relatives.
Each of the affected families received PhP 10,000.00 worth of financial assistance under the Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situations (AICS) to help them recover from the damages they have sustained. Psycho-social intervention was also conducted to the affected individuals by the DSWD staff to help them cope with the traumatic experience. Aside from this, the agency also provided hygiene kit, family kit and two-Family Food Packs (FFPs) to at least assuage the difficulty of their situation.
Each food pack contains six kilos of rice, ten sachets of 3-in-1 coffee or cereal energy drink and ten assorted canned goods that could last for two days with a family of five members.
A hygiene kit, on the other hand, is composed of 2 boxes of toothpaste, 4 packs sanitary napkins, 1 Razor, 100 ml. Shampoo, 5 pcs. Toothbrush, 5 bars of Laundry Soap, 1 pc. Nail Cutter, 1 Dipper, 5 bars of Bath Soap and 1 pc. Comb.
A family kit is composed of 3 pairs of Slippers, 5 pcs. Batch towels, 4 pcs. Adult Shorts, 4 pcs. Adult Shirts, Adult Underwear (2 pcs. Briefs and 2 panties), 2 pcs. Adult Sando Bra, 2 pairs of Adult Slippers, 6 pcs. Kids Shorts, 6 pcs. Kids Shirts, Kids Underwear (3 briefs and 3 panties) and 3 pcs. Kids Sando Bra.
DSWD Bicol, through the Social Welfare and Development Teams (SWADTs), is continuously working together to immediately address the needs of the fire victims. The Department is committed to prompt response to victims of calamities and disasters wherever, whenever.
