The Department of Social Welfare and Development Field Office V – Bicol Region, through its Disaster Response Management Division (DRMD), delivered safe drinking water to families in Barangay Puting Sapa, Juban, following the ongoing unrest of Mt. Bulusan.
A total of 560 bottles of six-liter distilled water were distributed to 280 families after the DRMD conducted a house-to-house assessment earlier today. The initiative was in response to residents’ concerns about experiencing discomfort after drinking water sourced from open springs or mountain streams, which may have been contaminated due to ashfall.
To address the community’s needs and prevent potential waterborne diseases, DSWD Bicol Regional Director Norman Laurio immediately instructed the response team to deliver clean drinking water to the affected families. This is in line with the directive of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to make sure that there is clean and potable drinking water in areas striken with disasters.
The assistance, valued at approximately PHP 60,000.00, ensured that each family received two bottles of distilled water.
Personnel from the Philippine Coast Guard – Juban Substation also assisted in unloading the water supplies upon arrival in the barangay.
DSWD Bicol remains on high alert and continues to monitor the situation in areas affected by the volcanic activity. In line with the directive of DSWD Secretary Rex Gatchalian, the agency is committed to delivering essential and compassionate services to families impacted by the ongoing unrest of Mt. Bulusan in the province of Sorsogon.###
