Security personnel of Department of Social Welfare and Development Field Office V was commended for his exemplary honesty when he returned a plastic envelope full of money amounting to P1.188M (P330,000 cheque and P858,000 cash) to its owner—local government unit of Prieto Diaz, Sorsogon.
Noel L. Lorilla of Urduja Security Services Incorporated recovered the money placed on top of the table located near the hallway of the Department during his duty hours at around 6:00 AM last March 20, 2015.
“Di man ako nag-expect na may kwarta ta may mga documents sa laog. Una ko sa estudyante kaya tiganapan ko I.D.; Kan nailing ko na may kwarta sa laog, tigtao ko po sa Management, [I did not expect that there was a money since there is a documents inside. I thought it was owned by a student so I tried to look for an identification card. When I saw there was money inside, I immediately surrender it to the management],” Mr. Lorilla said.
Shortly, the money was returned to the said LGU which is intended as financial assistance to the beneficiaries of Social Pension—a government program under the Department which gives a monthly stipend of P500 for indigent senior citizens as mandated by Republic Act 9994 or the Expanded Senior Citizens Act of 2010.
Regional Director Arnel B. Garcia, praised and handed Lorilla a certificate of commendation for his honesty and truthfulness in service. “He should be given honor and reward. Lorilla is a clear manifestation of a person that despite hardships, there are still people who are honest. We salute and congratulate him,” he said.
