Towards Ensuring Human Development. DSWD and PNP sign a Memorandum of Agreement to provide adequate, accurate, relevant and timely information to Pantawid Pamilya beneficiaries that insure security, community protection and public safety through the conduct of Family Development Session.

The Department of Social Welfare and Development signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with Philippine National Police (PNP) to formalize the partnership for the conduct of Family Development Session (FDS) in Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program covered areas in Bicol Region. The MOA signing was conducted in a simple ceremony last October 14, 2012 in Daraga, Albay.

Regional Director Arnel B. Garcia, CESO III, thanked the PNP for extending their services to continuously improve the lives of Pantawid Pamilya beneficiaries. “This partnership signifies that the Department is not alone in ensuring the human development of our beneficiaries. The knowledge, skills, experience, and expertise that the PNP will be imparting to our beneficiaries will be a big help to attain progress in their living,” he said.

The FDS is a monthly activity being conducted to beneficiaries of the Program. It is a venue for educational, interpersonal, interactive and adult learning engagement that aims to empower and strengthen the relationship and ties among family members and the community.

In the partnership agreement, the PNP will serve as resource person during the conduct of FDS. They will provide lectures, discussions, share their knowledge and experiences on topics like crime prevention tips, citizen’s arrest, community policing, special laws on family gender and development and what to do in case one witness a crime.

The PNP together with the DSWD will also craft and develop modular guide to avoid duplication and enhance complementation in providing information to beneficiaries.

According to Regional Director Clarence V. Guinto, the PNP is committed to serve and protect the people. “And we (DSWD and PNP) are one on this effort to lift the poor out of poverty,” he said.

Assistant Regional Director Corazon B. Mina of DSWD, Regional Project Coordinator Pricilla Saladaga, Atty. Natalia Guinto, Police Chief Inspector Efren Orbina, Public Information Officer Malou Calubaguib, Police Officer 1 Radzma Mamah Corova Jovellar, staff of DSWD and PNP are also present in the activity.

Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program is a human development program of the national government that invests in the health and education of poor households, particularly of children aged 0-14 years old.

It is patterned after the conditional cash transfer scheme implemented in other developing countries, the Pantawid Pamilya provides cash grants to beneficiaries provided that they comply with the set of conditions required by the program.***G.A.Lindio, Information Officer-Pantawid Pamilya
