The Department of Social Welfare and Development Bicol headed by Director Arnel B. Garcia awarded the certificate of completion and acceptance of 50 core shelter units worth 3.5 million to family beneficiaries in Barangay Lamon, Goa, Camarines Sur on March 4, 2014.

Mayor Antero Lim said that the local government of Goa purchased the lot to serve as relocation site and likewise the counterpart for the core shelter assistance project implementation.

Lim also shared that another 78 shelter units were already awarded and occupied by the families in Barangay Taytay and another 50 units will soon be turn-over in Barangay San Isidro of the same town. Each core shelter unit is worth PhP 70, 000.

Meanwhile Regional Director Arnel Garcia and Mayor Antero Lim assisted by the town’s official in awarding the certificate of acceptance to the recipients.

In his message Director Garcia said that Core Shelter Assistance Project (CSAP) is a project of the DSWD which provides typhoon resistant shelter units to displaced families caused by typhoon or other related disaster that are unable to restore damaged houses. The project is also intended to other families who are vulnerable to flooding and similar disaster that need to be relocated.

Garcia also explained that CSAP implementation includes mobilization of people’s organization particularly the neighborhood association for shelter assistance (NASA), the local government units (LGU’s) through the Municipal Social Welfare Officers (MSWDO’s), the needed resource materials and other facilities that would contribute to a more effective project implementation.
