LEGAZPI CITY– 25 youths will start their internship in the field office of the Department of Social Welfare and Development for 52 days starting on April 15, to render the Government Internship Program (GIP).
Government Internship Program is one of the components of the Kabataan 2000 program of the government with the end goal of providing opportunity for both out-of-school and in-school youth to have a hands on experience of working in various government offices.
The 25 youths will be assigned in the 13 Pantawid Pamilya areas; seven in Albay; six in Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur and Sorsogon; two in the Regional Rehabilitation Center for Youth, Sorsogon City; four in Reception and Study Center for Children, and in Haven in Ligao City; and six will work in the Field office.
Participants of the program are expected to perform not only actual office works but to also assist in the implementation and do direct service in the communities where the Department of Social Welfare and Development programs and projects are implemented in partnership with the Local Government Units.
The program is implemented during the summertime targeting the youth’s vacation to teach them to use their time in a productive manner and to initiate them to public service. It will also serve as the training ground for them and at the same time a recruitment mechanism for potential public employee.
At the end of the 52-day duration of their service, the participants will be paid according to their number of days worked and weekly accomplishments with the applicable minimum wage in the region. #eejerusalem/aubreyllamoso
