LEGAZPI CITY, BICOL REGION– The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) proudly commenced the construction of a new haven dedicated to women, children, and the aged in Sitio Suboc, Barangay 55, Estanza, Legazpi City yesterday, July 17, 2024. The groundbreaking ceremony, held amidst an atmosphere of hope and community spirit, signifies a significant milestone in the commitment to providing care and support to vulnerable sectors of society.

The event was attended by key stakeholders, government officials, community leaders, and representatives from various organizations, and the media, all united in their shared vision of fostering a safe and nurturing environment for those in need. Among the distinguished guests were Hon. Elizaldy Co, Chairman of the Committee on Appropriations, a staunch advocate for social welfare who donated the 7,500sqm lot for this residential care facility, the BHW Representative Hon. Christopher Co, members of the AKO Bicol Partylist, Officials from Albay and Legazpi City.

In his opening remarks, Regional Director Norman S. Laurio conveyed the message of Secretary Rex Gatchalian expressong his gratitude for this initiative, emphasizing the DSWD’s unwavering dedication to ensuring the welfare and protection of marginalized individuals. The establishment of this haven reflects the government’s proactive approach to addressing social issues and providing comprehensive care solutions as mandated by the President himself, Ferdinand Marcos Jr.

“This center will serve as a haven for distressed women and children, and a home for the aged, symbolizing our unwavering commitment to compassion with extra love and extra care. It marks a significant step forward in our efforts to uphold the dignity and well-being of every individual in our community”, RD Laurio explained.

The new facility will serve as a beacon of hope, offering shelter, rehabilitation, and support services tailored to the specific needs of women, children, and the elderly. It will feature state-of-the-art amenities designed to promote comfort, security, and holistic well-being.

Construction is set to proceed swiftly.
