About 161 school children from Brgy. Daculang Tubig, San Fernando,Camarines Sur will benefit from the Supplemental Feeding Program  sponsored by the Philippine Goodworks Mission  Foundation in partnership with the Department of Social Welfare and Development and the Local Government Unit of San Fernando, Camarines Sur .

In a simple launching ceremony held at the said barangay, DSWD Director Arnel Garcia in the presence of Mayor Eugenio Lagasca turned-over a check amounting to 163,275.00 to Mrs Vienna Sibulo, the School Head of Malaking Ilog Elementary School. The amount will cover the first three months implementation of the feeding program.

Director Garcia explained that the Supplemental Feeding Program  is the provision of food in addition to the regular meals to  either the day care and school children. It is a six months feeding program whose children beneficiary are from 5 to 12 years of age and are enrolled this coming school year. Each child will be provided with hot meals amounting to P15 per child per day, five times a week and this will be serve during lunch so that the children will not be allowed to go home instead they will have their lunch in the school. The parents will be the one to prepare the food while the recipes or suggested menu for the day will be provided by the Regional Dietary Nutritionist of the DSWD.

The program will likewise be coordinated with the Rural Health Unit who will conduct the regular weighing and deworming of the children and attend to other health concerns.

This program is funded by the Philippine Goodworks Mission Foundation, a Manila-based non –government organizations who caters to the children with nutritional and health problems.                                                                                                                                                # # # # # eejerusalem/smufo5
